Who we are and where we come from
Our story
Since 1999, we have advised sailors, Olympic teams, shipping companies and media organisations. What began at the intersection of meteorology and sailing has grown into a company with clients around the world.
How experience became WetterWelt.
Meteorologist Dr Meeno Schrader founded WetterWelt in 1999. Sailing and weather had never been separate subjects for him. He had already advised international regattas and Olympic teams since the 1980s. That experience became a company which now supports sailors, shipping companies around the world and media organisations.
We.Know.Weather describes what our team does every day: we analyse weather data and turn it into a reliable basis for decisions. Today we develop forecasts, routing services, warning systems and software. Precise, clear and made for practical use.

Chapter 01 – 1999
It began in sailing
Dr Meeno Schrader did not only study weather, he experienced it himself as a sailor. His work took him from Northern Germany to regattas in the Caribbean, the United States, Australia and South Korea. By the 1980s, he was already advising international regattas and Olympic teams.
After working as a broadcast meteorologist and advising record-breaking sailors such as Ellen MacArthur, he founded WetterWelt in 1999. Sailors have remained an important part of our work ever since, using our forecasts, advice and software for races, passages and safer decisions at sea.

Moving into commercial shipping
From 2011 onwards, WetterWelt expanded its work for shipping companies, offshore projects and logistics operators. Their requirements differ from those of sailing, but the principle is the same: weather information must arrive in time, be easy to understand and support a specific decision.
Today we support shipping companies with personal weather advice, route recommendations and software developed in-house. This includes METEO TRACKER, developed for professional shipping.

Chapter 03 – today
WetterWelt today
Sebastian Wache joined the team in 2010. As a meteorologist, sailor and weather presenter for German broadcaster NDR, he combines practical experience with clear communication. Through our Atlantic passage consulting, he provides sailors with personal weather advice during their ocean crossing.
Alongside consulting and media work, the team develops warning systems and software. METEO MONITOR helps organisations identify critical weather developments early and alert the right people in time.
Our field of work has grown over the years. What has remained is our aim to present weather information in a way our clients can use with confidence.
